Essence of Gecko

Ecdysis or molting refers to the shedding of the outer skin or integument of animals. This is the molted skin of the head of an African Fat-tailed Gecko, Hemitheconyx caudicinctus. The molted skin is not frequently found, because it is usually eaten by the shedder. A snapshot of the shedding process as well as a link to more information on the African Fat-tailed gecko can be found at Evolving Complexity.
